Description:
Horohoro's
little sister. She puts him through Anna-like training so he can be shaman king.
She made the Ikupasuy that Horo often uses as a medium. (Actually, Horo uses
the Ikupasuy during the fights in Patch Village more than the snowboard. I
am pretty sure he still gets the same attacks.) Pirka not a shaman, but she can see spirits. She calls Horohoro Oniichan
(Japanese name for an elder brother). For the dub only 1 letter is changed in her name: "r"
to "l"... Pilka. Why you ask? Explanation time:
*cracks fingers* |

The Japanese "r" is not all like the retroflex
American "r" where the tongue is rolled back then moved forward.
Instead it is produced by flapping the tip of the tongue downward from just
behind the upper front teeth. It often sounds very much like an "l" to
English speakers. Aside from this, Japanese has no "l" sound and the
"r" is used in pronouncing foreign loanwords that contain the
letter "l". *whew* |
 |
So basically Pirka basically keeps her original
name, regarding the fact that the "r" is changed to an "l"
so in America there won't be any confusion about the pronunciation and spelling
of her name, the same thing applies to Tao Ren, And
his mother Tao Ran (so it's pronounced Lan). Also, The dub adds an extra
"I" to her name: Pilika. This was more like a lesson than a character profile. |

explanation of the "r" & "l" sound was an excerpt from
