Episode 8

Shaman Life

Gei Yin's introductory episode. For me, it was kind of confusing. All I know is that Gei Yin tries to kill Yoh. Jun, by this point, had changed her ways and sees past what she was taught growing up that ghost are just tools, yada yada yada. Gei Yin is a Daoshi like Jun and her personal ghost is called Yugai(?). Gei Yin taunts Jun and Ren in this episode saying that they were too weak to kill Yoh. She also mocks Jun saying that Yugai(?) is the real Kung-fu master, whereas Bailong just played one. Of course we all know that Bailong is Kung-fu master, because Yugai(?)<--(I'm gonna stop putting this cuz' you the the point by now) uses a samurai-type sword and Kung-fu masters don't necessarily use swords like Yugai does. Yugai is more ninja/samurai. It is never mentioned how Gei Yin, Ren and Jun were related. The dub calls them cousins.

Ryu makes the announcement that he wants to be a shaman, so Anna puts him to work cleaning the house. Ryu calls it "training" and his friends keep saying that Anna is just using him to clean the house, but Ryu states otherwise:

"Breakfast is at 7:30. The entire morning is spent washing and cleaning. Lunch is at 12:00. break time is from 1-2. after that, wash the bath. What part of this is training?" (Muscle Punch reading Anna's instructions.) Ryu's friend 1: "It looks more like a housekeepers job list than a training list." Ryu: "Shut up. I'm busy training right now. I don't have time to talk to you." Ryu's friend 1: 'Training? Isn't this just washing a bath?" Ryu: "You don't understand." Muscle Punch: "Thats because there's nothing to understand...this isn't training!" Ryu: "This is fantastic training!" Ball Boy: "No, all you do is chores from morning to night!" Ryu: "The student is always supposed to take care of his master and do his housekeeping."

Ok, that's just a glimpse of Ryu's training. Ryu goes on to say that as long as he lives with Yoh and Anna, he will do "as Mistress Anna thinks best. Well then, it's time to steal some skills."

They find Yoh "meditating" and Manta goes on to say that mental conditioning is important for a shaman so he can call his spirit into his body and merge with it. Then Yoh wakes up from his "meditation":

Yoh: "Ah, that was a good nap. My legs are stiff!" Ball Boy: "What was that?" Manta: "It's always like this." Ryu: "I see...I get it now! During the day he pretends to be stupid, and then he goes off and trains in secret. Way to go Master!" Ha ha...ok.
