Episode 21

Believe

Ren returns to China a changed shaman, and is on a mission to overthrow his father En. He is captured, tortured, and imprisoned along with Jun. Yoh and Co. want to go and save him, but Anna does not want them to go. She knows and understands the situation, but she tells them that it is a "father and son" issue. In the dub, Anna says that she does not want Yoh to get hurt, and the dub makes her sound more heartless then what she really is. The dub also cuts any lines mentioning Anna's kindness and emotional strength. When Yoh and Co. finally go, Yoh says that he forgot the map to Ren's home. The dub has him say that he forgot his Chinese dictionary.

Ryu talks about Chinese women, and Horohoro says that he can't wait to have some Chinese food. (Poor Horo-chan. He doesn't realize that in later episodes, Chinese food is all that he will get and he will soon tire of it. LOL.)

The dub calls En Ren and Jun's uncle and says that their father is dead. Uh, no. their father is En.

The dub also, says that the Tao's have been training for the tournament for many years and they steal other shamans Furyoku for themselves. Originally, the Tao's have been an assassin group for like, I'm gonna take a wild stab at the years: 3,000 years.

Hao, and BoZ (Zen and Ryo) make their appearances in this episode. Their original voices are a lot better than their dub voices.

The original songs BoZ use are cut out (of course) and are replaced by sad excuses for songs. In other words, they are pretty bad.

The original songs were JOH! Butsu-the song used to send ghosts to heaven, and Chimi Chimi Moryo-the song used to control the Chimi Moryo.

Chimi Moryo (or Chimimoryo) means 'evil spirits', so basically evil spirits that have forgotten their original forms, but the dub says that they are evil cherub demons.

A weird thing the dub does is change Zen Hijiri's family name to Hoshi. What was the point in changing a Japanese name to another Japanese name? It does not make sense. Ryo's family name is Kamishiro. I don't know if it was changed for the dub or not. I believe that Zen and Ryo keep their names for the dub, but all the dub episodes I watched with them in it, which was like 2, they did not mention their names.  The only name mentioned is "The Flying Zen Brothers". gag.

The different names for BoZ:

Manga- BoZ (I will use this name 'cuz it is easier for me to type.)  Anime-ZenRyo                                                                                                                                              Dub- The Flying Zen Brothers (I suppose that this name is taken from the "Flying Trapeze Brothers.)

I have listened to the long versions of both Chimi Chimi Moryo and JOH! Butsu, and I kind of like Chimi Chimi Moryo a bit better than JOH! Butsu. Actually, I like them both equally.

The reason that Kororo can't be sent to heaven is because she is an earth spirit, not a ghost.

When Kanna is talking to Hao, the cigarette she has in her mouth is edited out. Actually, there has been some controversy on wither the stick-like thing in Kanna's mouth is a cigarette, a piece of Pocky, a toothpick, or a straw. In the manga, it was a cigarette.

As usual, all Japanese text is erased.
