Episode 20 Soul Mata Cemetary Yoh's rematch with Ren. When Yoh and Ren start their match, the dub has Ren tell Yoh that he has 1 loss and 1 win, therefore giving Ren the reason to beat Yoh. Originally, Ren had won 2 fights and the reason for this fight was about pride. For the dub Ren and Bason's horses names have been changed from Hakuoh to White Phoenix, and Kokutoh to Black Raven. These are accurate translations so the horses basically keep their names. In the manga, Kokutoh's (Black Raven's) name was Black Peach. Ren's attack Perfect Chuuka-Zanmai is renamed Ultra Calvary Charge. It sort of makes sense because Bason was commander of the Tao's cavalry when he was alive. When the battle was over, Yoh was upset because he thought that he lost and Anna was going to punish him: Yoh: NOOO! Anna's gonna beat me! Ren: That's none of my business. Yoh: *points at Ren* If Anna punishes me, you're coming with me! Ren: What?? Why Me??!! Yoh: 'Cause you were showing off and giving speeches! Of course, this was edited out for the dub. Ren gave his first genuine smile in this episode. Apparently, he said that it was kind of refreshing to be out Furyoku. In the dub, Yoh and Horohoro have a conversation about VCR's. o_O?! Originally, they were talking about the Shaman Tournament after the prelims. The end result for both versions was the same: it gave Ren the opportunity to call Horohoro an idiot. Horohoro learns Ren's name in this episode and when he does, he tips him over. This is based on a Japanese pun: Tao Ren- he/she does not fall, Tao Reru- he/she did fall. I can understand why this was edited out. For some reason, the dub likes to mention ham/cheeseburgers every chance they get. They also edit out the month that appears on calendars. For example: In this episode, the month November was edited out. The dub has Ren say that he is 15, but he's actually 13. Ren was not taught that humans were bad, it's an assumption he cam up with on his own. Back to Episodes |
