Episode 1

A Boy Who Dances with Ghosts

Introductory episode. A lot of dialogue was moved around and changed, especially at the beginning. Manta Oyamada's name has been changed to "Morty", Yoh & Amidamaru get to keep their original names. I don't like Manta's original or dub voice, I like Yoh's dub & original voice, I also like both of Amidamaru's voices.

The "friends" Manta has in the beginning after he meets Yoh in the cemetery are nicer in the original. The dub turn's the girl into a jerk. When Manta first tells his school friends about the ghosts, they think he is making up the story to scare them, then the girl says that Manta was scared numb with fear after reading a few horror books. The other two agree with her and she says to Manta "Even so, I happen to enjoy ghost stories. Continue on with the story Manta." Of course, when Manta reacts to this comments saying that the story is not made up, the friends came up with theories that he is losing it, he is worn out from too much studying, or he is being haunted by a ghost (possessed).

When Yoh arrives at Manta's school, Manta screams that "it's him!" and the teacher asks him if they know each other. Manta replies that they don't and is told to sit down.

When following Yoh after school, Manta spies on him from behind a lamp pole while Yoh stares at the river for 3 hours. In the original, there was Kanji stating that three hours had passed. The dub changes it to a clock. I think it fit rather well with the clock and the fast spinning hour and minute hand spinning to like (I'm going to take a guess at the times) 3:00-6:00.

Bokuto No Ryu's name has been changed to "Rio". I still have trouble liking his dub voice. It's just....bleh. His original voice is a heck a whole lot better.

All Japanese text has been erased in the dub. Also, of course, all the cussing was taken out and even the original DVD's I realized were uncut, but the dialogue was still changed, which was a real rip-off because it said "Original Uncut Version". The book Manta carries was originally called the Mantannian Dictionary. This has been replaced with a big ghost stories book.

The Lord that Amidamaru served has been changed to a king. The writing on Amidamaru's tombstone and the sticks that are next to it (I cannot remember what they are called) have been taken out. When Manta has the bandages on after he gets beat up by Ryu's gang, the dub has him tell dub Yoh that he wanted to be a doctor and he might have overdone the bandages; I'm also pretty sure that his black eye was dubbed out.
