Episode 47

Really Naive

A Ryu centered episode. In the beginning the crew is complaining about how expensive stuff is and Anna says "Your right. Is it ok for 10 directors to do this kind of bad business? Is today's Shaman Fight that boring?" The dub has her complaining about how much it costs to go into a bathroom.

Ryu meets a girl from Team Arabia who's name is Anis, but he does not know that she has a fiancée. (NOTE: the "A" is pronounced like the "a" in father. It is not pronounced like anus. I can visualize my baka older sister saying that it is pronounced like that since she doesn't know how the Japanese "A" is pronounced)

When Anis's fiancée (Haloon) sees her talking to Ryu, he has his spirit ally, a giant genie, punch Ryu into the side of the cliff *ouch*. Anis tries to defend Ryu but Haloon slaps her. The slap was taken out for the dub, but the result of the slap was kept. When I first saw the dub version of this episode and the situation just explained happened, I always wondered why when Anis was standing up, she had no red mark on her face, but when Haloon shows up, she suddenly dropped to her knees and it showed her holding her face and it had a red mark on it. I assumed that she was blushing, but it did not make any sense to blush and only one side of your face turn red. The dub has it look like she is just resting her chin on her hand.

"Team Arabia", Haloon and Anis's team, is renamed "Team Parthia".

When Yoh and the gang are eating dinner, the TV is showing a cartoon about the Kokkuri Angel (Tamao in a mini-comic at the end of some Shaman King manga volumes), and the dub has it look like they are watching a Shaman Fight report with Tamao hosting it. Originally, they were watching a cartoon and commenting about how surprising it was to see Japanese Anime in America. The fact that Anna turned the TV off because they were eating basically remains the same.

Here's a little amusing...something. I don't think that it would be labeled as a pun : In the dub when Yoh & Co. are eating (excluding Ryu who is in his room sulking), Yoh says, "General Tao's Chicken. Any relation to you guys Ren?" I am assuming that it it a takeoff of the food brand "General Tso's Chicken".
